SPCA

What is SPCA?

SPCA helps protect approximately 45,300 animals in New Zealand every year. Animals who are sick, injured, lost, abused or simply abandoned. We are the only charity with the power to protect all animals

How did it begin?

SPCA began in England in the 19th century .The first law to protect animals was passed in 1822 after a long struggle by several people including William Wilberforce and Richard Martin. In 1824 Rev Arthur Broome formed SPCA in London. These three men, with others, proceeded to make many performances for breaches of the new Act.

How is SPCA funded?

As a charity, SPCA receives only 1% of its funding from the New Zealand government.  As a result, SPCA relies almost entirely on the generosity of the public to carry out their life.

Transformation using grids

Today we found an accredited image on Explore and selected it to use on our page. We then put a 5x5 grid on it so we could copy the image and make it original. Mrs Minehan selected the first two images so we could understand the process, then we got to choose our own image.
I found the first one a bit challenging
The second one was Pretty easy and i'm proud of it
I chose the image of a tree because I think that one was better
Have you ever tried to transform an image using a grid? How did you find the process?

Jellyfish

                                                               JELLYFISH

Jellyfish are a type of sea creatures and they are all around the world. Jellyfish eat plants such as copepods, zooplankton, fish eggs and other small fish called lava. Some Jellyfish’s stings are deadly to humans. The following body parts are common to all jellyfish’s stomach, skin,, nerve net, mouth, oral arms, ocellus which is around the jellyfish eye and of course tentacles. A Jellyfish moves by lightly shaking its body an adult Jellyfish is called a medusa. Some Jellyfish look a lot like plastic bags and some like umbrellas. A group of jellyfish is called a bloom. A box jellyfish is almost see through. Large blooms can have over 100,000 jellyfish. Some can be very hard to see nearly invisible for humans to see. Jellyfish are not a real fish. Jellyfish do not have brains. The jellyfish makes a tasty meal for other ocean creatures, especially sea turtles. Jellyfish use their tentacles to sting. Most are harmless to humans but stings from some Jellyfish, such as the box jellyfish, can be very painful and sometimes kill people. Jellyfish can be large and brightly coloured Up to 15 tentacles grow from each corner of the bell which is another part of the body for a medusa A jellyfish lives for 12 to 18 months.. The welts (which are the bumps that show after you get hit or stung) may last for 1 to 2 weeks, and itchy skin rashes could come up 1 to 4 weeks after the sting.

Jellyfish are eaten by humans in certain cultures that means some people eat jellyfish.

The jellyfish mouth is found in the centre of its body. Jellyfish are so fascinating. Jellyfish have been around for millions of years, even before dinosaurs lived on the Earth. In North Queensland the big box jellyfish is the most common jellyfish seen during 'stinger season. What to do when you get stung by a jellyfish Get Out of the Water. Stop the Stinging. Rinse the area with vinegar for at least 30 seconds. If you want to know more go to wikipedia and search jellyfish.I Hope you all enjoyed my speech about jellyfish

MyMaps

We learnt how to use Google MyMaps and then we got to look closely at our own environment and locate landmarks. For each landmark we found we had to name it, write something about it and find an image of it so that the pin on our map had information on it. This is my finished map of Kumara. Have you ever used MyMaps to locate places in where you live?
