Holidays
Monday.
.On Monday morning I stretched my legs and started my day! At our house there was Zeb (My 10 year old nephew), Cleo (My 4 year old niece), Sarah (My sister), Ivo (Cleo's Dad), Dad, Karyn, Jack and I. Karyn left early for work. When I got up I weakly walked into the lounge and curled up on the couch with my blankie. Eventually I got up and made myself some breakfast. After breakfast I watched some Netflix with Jack and Zeb. A little while later we had lunch. After lunch I went outside on the swing. Later on at about 3:00 pm Cleo and Ivo went to the park. Then CC our Aunty picked Jack Zeb and I up and went to the Greymouth pool. When we were done we walked down the road. When we got to Nanas I had a dreadful headache. We also got some tropical juice and chicken chips to share. While we were at Nanas, CC was out… Somewhere? Anyway when she got back Zeb, Jack and I begged CC to get us McDonalds And… She said YES!!! So Zeb and Jack got a chicken burger and I got chicken nuggets and chips. Next we went to pick Nana’s dinner. We dropped Nana's tea off then we were on our way home. When we got home there was spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. I ate all my dinner.. It was really good. Then Jack, Zeb and I did the dishes. After the dishes we had biscuits. Well… That was a good day, I can't wait till tomorrow.
Welcome to my blog. I am a student at Kumara School in Kumara, on the West Coast of New Zealand.

Matariki
Matariki
Even though not all tribes celebrate together or not at the same time it usually begins on the first full moon.
Lots of people think that Matariki is a constellation but it is a cluster.
There are about 500 stars of Matariki but without a telescope you can only see six or seven stars.
Matariki has different names in different countries.
Some of the names of the stars are Matariki, Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waitī, Waitā, Waipunā-ā-rangi and Ururangi.
Matariki is the maori new year.
Matariki comes back in June.
Polynesians celebrate matariki with kites.
Matariki means the new cycle of life.
Matariki is a time to remember the people you have lost.
If the Matariki stars are hard to see it means the next year will be very cold.
Matariki is a time to get ready for learning.
Also if the stars are hard to see it means it is a bad time to grow crops.
Polar Bears
Polar Bears
Hi, I am Rylee and I am obsessed with Polar Bears. I am trying to find a way to help the Polar Bears. My speech is all about them.Polar bears live in the Arctic. Most Polar bears are found on the north of the Arctic circle. Popular places for Polar bears to live are Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland and Norway. Did you know adult polar bears can grow up to 2.5 meters long? If you ask me, that is pretty big. Also these big creatures can weigh up to 680kg. They are the biggest meat eaters on the planet!!! What do you call a polar bear with ear muffs on?
Anything it can’t hear you.
A polar bear can kill a human but it is not likely. They can also kill each other. The reason for killing is because that is where the polar bears live and they don’t want other bears in their territory. Like many others they are territorial. The polar bears will only kill humans and each other for protection.Polar bears hunt seals on the ice. They sit on the ice waiting for a seal to pop up. When a seal does pop up the polar bears grab them with their mouths and pull them to land.Did you know that a polar bear's fur is actually transparent with a hollow core, well now you know that that a polar bear's fur is not really white.
What is white, big and has wheels on it’s paws? A roller bear.
Polar bears diet consists mainly of seals. Sometimes they also eat carcasses of beluga whales, walruses, narwhals, and bowhead whales. They also eat fish. A carcasse is a dead animal body.During winter, many bears stay warm by making a den and sleeping. Polar bears do not hibernate, but their bodies do slow down around this time. A den is a home made of snow for the polar bears to sleep.A polar bear's nose is so powerful that it can smell a seal on the ice 20 miles away!Keeping clean. To clean their fur, polar bears roll in the snow. The snow is like a cold bath for the polar bears. The ice is also slippery and wet also like a bath.
What did the ocean say to the polar bear, nothing it just waved. Anyway back to the speech.
For such a big bear, polar bears start out small. A cub is about the size of a stick of
butter when it is born. It is born hairless, with its eyes closed. Milk from polar bear mothers is 35 percent fat, this helps the cubs grow quickly.Polar bears keep warm from their thick layer of fur and fat. Polar bears have two types of fur. The Polar bears' hairs are long and oily and they help keep water away and keep heat in.Did you know that polar bears skin is actually black. Weird right? When Polar Bears see humans they can show how they feel with body language. They can also use senses like smell.Polar bears can also get scared and worried when they get discovered or approached.
Why was the sad polar bear not thinking he was white anymore? Because it was feeling blue.
From climate change the polar bears can not live a normal life. They can’t be happy. The temperatures in the arctic are rising and melting the ice.So it is difficult for them to find food. The polar bears can possibly drown in deep water. They also need the ice to catch food on.I need your help to save these amazing creatures. Our actions are hurting the world. Please stand with me to fight this madness. We can help by reducing the amount of pollution and power. Cars, planes, motorbikes, boats and more. They are all making smog and smoke which is not good for any animal. The Ice is also melting. We can’t help with that but we can hope. That is the end of my speech about polar bears.
Thank You!

New Puppy
New Puppy
As I wake up on christmas morning the snow falls lightly. It is a chilly morning as I walk down the stairs my eyes open wide. I see a cute puppy just sitting there.”Oh my gosh this is amazing”I screamed. At first the puppy is frightened and tries to get away.”Hmmm what can I name him”I say.”Ohhh maybe Buddie”I say excitedly. Buddie loved his new owner after a couple of weeks. One day buddie was walking around outside and fell in the snow.He was lost and we all went to find him. When we found him he was curled up in a ball shivering. We took him to the vet and he stayed there for three weeks. We were so worried. The weeks passed by slowly we sat there lots of things took my mind off him but I still missed him. When he came back he was so much better.I was so happy to see him.But he was sick and we had to be careful`

How it happened
One day I was at my wonderful Nana's house and my brother dived on my back and I slid right over my toe *CRACK* Ahhhhhhhh It was so horribly painful. Then my Mum came running she threw me on the couch. It was torture.
I didn’t go to the hospital or get checked .Every night I would lay in bed and dissolve in tears.

Numb
Aching
Stressed
Unpleasant

My Amazing Anzac Biscuits
On Friday the 24th of April I made Anzac biscuits. They were delicious and very easy to make. Here are some photos and the recipe
Ingredients
1 cup Edmonds Standard Grade Flour
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 ¾ cups rolled oats
½ cup Chelsea White Sugar or Chelsea Raw Sugar
¼ cup (firmly packed) Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar
1 cup desiccated coconut
125g Tararua Butter, cubed
¼ cup Chelsea Golden Syrup Tin
2 Tablespoons water
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
Method
1. Pre-heat oven to 150°C conventional bake. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. In a medium sized bowl, sift together the Edmonds Standard Grade Flour and cinnamon. Add the rolled oats, coconut and sugars; mix well.
3. Combine the Tararua Butter, Chelsea Golden Syrup and water in a small saucepan and stir over low-medium heat until the Tararua Butter melts and the mixture is well combined (ensure the mixture does not simmer or boil). Remove from heat and stir in the bicarbonate of soda. Add immediately to the dry ingredients and use a wooden spoon to stir until well combined.
4. Roll 1-2 tablespoons of mixture into balls and place onto tray about 5cm apart. Use your fingers to flatten each slightly (until they are about 1cm thick) and bake for 16 minutes (for a chewy biscuit) or 20 minutes for a crunchier biscuit.
5. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Keep in an airtight container for up to a week.

Good Friends
PLAN
What they do
Why are they nice
Acceptance
Good Friends
Good friends are accepting and loyal. They will always be there for you. I will now explain how good friends are and how they act.
What they do
All good friends stay by you in the good times and the bad. Sometimes they help you make a decision or even tell you when you are being a bad friend. Good friends are trustworthy. You can usually tell if your friends are trustworthy.
Why are they nice
Your friends are nice because they see the good in you hopefully you see it in them too. All people like having a friend or a shoulder to cry on. Lots of people see their friends as caring wonderful people. I hope you see it as well.
Acceptance
You should always accept your friends for who they really are even if you are a dancer and your best friend is a rugby player, you are completely different but you will always have an extremely strong connection inside of you.
In conclusion you should always be a kind caring friend even when something goes wrong.

Midland Line Swimming Sports
On Wednesday the 4th of March Room 1 from Kumara School went to Midland line swimming sports at the Greymouth Aquatic Centre. There were a bunch of activities for years 5-8 and the year 4s joined in on the year 5 activities. Lots of kids won ribbons for their races. The year groups got split into two, the boys raced together and the girls raced together. I chose 4 people from Kumara School to say what they enjoyed about swimming sports. This is what they said:
Autumn said “It was really fun and I enjoyed competing against others because it was challenging”.
Hayley said “It was so fun all the schools did great”.
Jack R said “I liked that some stuff was challenging”.
Oscar said “I liked that It was challenging”.
Once again our school was the best behaved, like Hayley said everyone did amazing, it was very entertaining.
